It’s summertime! Time to grab that laptop, hit the beach, and bring those games to life. From audio generation to advanced editing tools, this month’s updates are all about giving teams more creative control and flexibility.
We’ve officially launched Audio Generation (v1) in partnership with Eleven Labs - so you can now create sound effects and game dialogue with high-quality voices, straight from a text prompt. (Lip sync coming soon.)
We also rolled out major improvements to Layer Docs, now packed with video guides covering Canvas editing, style training, prompt editing, and more - so it’s easier than ever to get up and running with Layer.
And in case you missed it: Cosmic Lounge is the latest studio to share how they’ve integrated Layer’s API directly into their custom Puzzle Engine - generating 2D art in their own trained style, right inside Unity.
Outside the platform, there’s more to celebrate:
Layer was named a Top 25 Spark100 AI startup
We’re nominated for two 2025 Mobile Game Awards 🎉
And we’re heading to Gamescom in August - see you there?
Praise the sun!
Platform Updates ⚙️
Improvements and changes to the Layer platform.
New Features
Audio Generation (v1) has arrived! Added audio generation to Layer in partnership with Eleven Labs. Supports sound effects and a library of 10 high-quality voices. Generate audio from text prompts and export as .wav. Lip sync support coming soon.
Style Training V2 is here and better than ever. Our custom style training is used by almost every major game studio on Layer, so we gave it a new coat of paint to make it more intuitive with a new user flow and UX. You can now upload assets, format them for best training performance, all in one view - just click the "Build a New Style" in your styles.
Layer Docs are better than ever. Tired of reading? We got you. Our docs now contain tons of helpful videos that help you get the most out of Layer. Learn how to edit scenes with the Canvas, change characters with Prompt Edit, create custom styles, and more.
More editing control with the Image Cropper Tool. Added a new cropper component with a movable window for uploaded images. You can now edit reference assets with precision to guide your generations or prep your assets for style training all on Layer. There's also the ability to automatically expand the image to any size!
Large organization looking for advanced org-level insights? Export data from your workspace. Now with a helpful guide, you can export all your events data from your Layer workspace, using a secure access token. Great for larger game studios looking to optimize how they're working.
Platform Improvements
Fixed an issue where upscaling assets with transparency would ignore the transparent background - transparency is now properly preserved during upscale.
Added voice previews for speech generation - hover or click play to preview using a default sample text.
Capped image upload sizes for Drive and reference images - improves backend performance and handling.
Removed a domain check from SCIM so that people with different email domains could sign-up to the same workspace.
Added automatic expand in Refine: expand to a specified aspect ratio by padding with transparent pixels.
Fixed a number of Files/Drive issues. Resolved a crash when selecting a Folder in the Drive. Instances where the File details drawer could not be closed in the Style Details page. Also solved where Files could not be unposted by owners if part of another workspace.
Fixed an issue where style cover images were not loading for some customers and a bug where old videos appeared during upscaling instead of the newly uploaded ones.
Some general UI/UX updates: Improved Crop UX in the Expand flow - added clearer tooltips and dialogs. Also added hotkey support for the file picker and preview list.

Looking Ahead 🔮
Summer’s just started and opportunity is in the air. June was a relatively “quiet” month because we have big things on the horizon - including a new Custom Style trainer system, lipsync and advanced features for audio generation, and more.
We also have some amazing new hires to share with you soon, as well as some pretty 🔥videos on the way. It’s great to get some downtown, but we won’t be taking the summer off - so expect lots of updates and features in the very near future.
Stay tuned.
