Layer Update (April ‘25) - Edit with AI & Refine at Scale

Layer Update (April ‘25) - Edit with AI & Refine at Scale

April was all about tightening the bolts on core functionality. We launched the new Activity Feed, giving teams a clean, searchable view of every generation across Sessions - a big win for game studios managing large-scale pipelines. Batch operations also dropped for our Refine tools, letting you upscale, vectorize, or remove backgrounds from multiple assets at once. And the File Picker got a serious upgrade, with double-click, multi-select, and a smoother, faster selection flow.

We also brought Canvas into the main Session feed for a more seamless editing loop, launched Prompt Genie to level up your prompts, and added Kling 2.0 to the video lineup.

We capped the month off with our 2025 team offsite - bringing the whole crew together to align on what’s next and double down on building the best AI tools in games.

Platform Updates ⚙️

Improvements and changes to the Layer platform.

New Features

  • Bringing order to chaos: the new Activity Feed: Teams can now view a feed of past generations across Sessions. Designed to help manage pipelines, art directors and admins can filter by user to keep tabs on creative output.
  • Canvas editor has joined the features family: No longer in a new screen - you can now open images directly in Session without disrupting your workflow. Earlier assets have been migrated into new Sessions.
  • Editing one by one? Not anymore! Batch operations have arrived: You can now upscale, vectorize, or remove backgrounds from multiple assets at once using our Refine tools, considerably speeding up larger projects.
  • Edit images with AI: use your prompts to edit images, change colors, create item upgrades and progression rooms and more now with GPT4.o and soon on Gemini! Unique to Layer - this feature  in batches for multiple files
  • The groundwork for many features - new Improved Filepicker: You can now Double-click items to quickly select them, and select multiple assets at once. These will serve as the foundation for more advanced features in the future.
  • Launched Prompt Genie - magic lamp not included: A SUPER useful tool for enhancing prompts with guided improvements. Check out our docs for more details.
  • New video model: Kling 2.0

News, updates, and changes to the Layer team. Basically, everything that doesn’t involve lines of code.

Layer 2025 Offsite: Defining the future of AI-powered game content

After months of rapid growth, product launches, and new team members joining from across the globe, we took a moment to step back, align, and plan what’s next for our platform.

New feature: First frame/last frame for video generation

With AI models like Kling, you can now create and define opening and closing shots of a video generation - guiding the AI with more precision than ever before. This full tutorial shows you how.

New feature: Batch edit game assets with Refine Tools

Editing assets manually takes time - especially when you're working at scale. In this video, we walk through Layer’s new Batch Refine tools, which let you edit prompts, styles, and settings across multiple generations.

New feature: Activity Feed

Keeping track of game assets can be a challenge - especially in a large studio. In this video, we take a quick look at Layer’s new Activity Feed - a centralized view that lets you track, search, and manage all your generations.

New video model: Kling 2.0

Kling 2.0 is one of the most advanced video models in the market - now available on Layer. With more accurate prompts, cinematic quality, and lifelike motion, this model is the perfect way to bring your assets to life.

New feature: Prompt Genie 🧞

Our new Prompt Genie feature allows you to enhance a prompt with natural guidance. No more guessing around phrases and words, just tell the genie what you want in your prompt and it generates the appropriate language automatically.

Updated style: Game UI (FLUX)

Creating clean, consistent UI assets for games is always tricky - especially when you need precise sizes and shapes. In this video, we explore Layer’s updated “Game UI” style, built on the FLUX model.

Looking Ahead 🔮

Whew! That was a lot in one month. The most exciting thing is that many of the updates in April set us up to create even bigger features in the future around multi-file workflows, batch editing and automations, and so much more. Keep an eye out for these things coming down the pipe!

As we enter the summer months, we’ll also be focusing on improving everything from our video tools (more cinema!) to new ways to prompt and pose. We don’t want to spoil the fun, but expect some pretty big visual updates as well.

More to come - stay tuned!
